Kite Adds Support for 11 New Languages | AI Code Completion

Upon its 2019 debut, Kite, the AI-powered code completion application backed by substantial funding, demonstrated promising capabilities, though initial support was limited to Python. The platform subsequently incorporated JavaScript earlier this year, and now announces compatibility with 11 additional programming languages.

These newly supported languages include Java, Kotlin, Scala, C/C++, Objective C, C#, Go, TypeScript, HTML/CSS, and Less. Kite integrates with a wide range of commonly used development environments, such as VS Code, JupyterLab, Vim, Sublime, and Atom, alongside all IDEs built on JetBrains IntelliJ, including Android Studio.

This expansion significantly broadens Kite’s appeal to a greater number of developers. The company reports that its most engaged users currently avoid typing approximately 175 “words” of code daily thanks to the tool. A distinguishing feature of Kite has always been its ranking of suggestions based on their relevance—a contrast to the alphabetical ordering employed by some competing, non-AI-based tools. Kite’s algorithms were trained using code sourced from GitHub to develop these models.

The service is offered as a complimentary download, as well as a server-hosted, subscription-based enterprise edition. The paid version features a more extensive deep learning model, resulting in enhanced AI functionality, and the option to develop tailored models. Furthermore, the enterprise tier provides support for completing multiple lines of code, a feature not available in the free version, which is restricted to single-line completions.

Kite highlights that, alongside the addition of these new languages, the past year has been dedicated to refining the user experience, aiming for a less intrusive and more effective completion system with increased relevance.
