Preventing SSH Session Disconnections in SecureCRT

Frequent disconnections from SSH servers while using an SSH client can be a significant inconvenience. Fortunately, a straightforward solution exists within SecureCRT to address this issue.

Configuring the Session Options

To begin, access the session options menu. Navigate to Options, then select Session Options from the dropdown menu.

Within the Session Options window, locate and click on the Terminal item in the tree structure.

A crucial setting for maintaining a persistent connection is the "Send Protocol NO-OP" option. Select the checkbox next to Send Protocol NO-OP to enable it.

This setting instructs SecureCRT to periodically transmit a keep-alive message to the SSH server.

How the NO-OP Protocol Works

By enabling the "Send Protocol NO-OP" feature, a signal is regularly sent to the SSH server.

This signal indicates that the client session remains active, effectively preventing the server from prematurely terminating the connection due to inactivity. The server will then avoid disconnecting the session.

Implementing this simple change can dramatically improve the stability and usability of your SSH connections within SecureCRT.
