jetbrains presses go on its space project management platform for developers

The recent $28 billion acquisition of Slack by Salesforce highlights the current intense activity within the team collaboration software market. Alongside popular platforms like Notion and Frame.io (which secured $50 million in funding last year), and Microsoft’s Fluid, JetBrains – known for its software development environments (IDEs) – has now officially released Space, a comprehensive collaboration platform designed for creative teams.

Having operated in private beta for the past year, JetBrains reports receiving over 35,000 requests from organizations eager to participate in the testing phase.

Space integrates standard collaboration features, such as chat functionality, team and project organization, appointment scheduling, and document management, with specialized workflows tailored to specific industries. Initially focused on the software development process, the platform intends to incorporate tools relevant to a broader range of professions and departments moving forward.

According to Maxim Shafirov, CEO of JetBrains, “JetBrains began as a company focused on developers, but currently 40% of our workforce consists of individuals in diverse creative positions – designers, marketers, writers, and more. We developed Space to facilitate seamless collaboration within our own team, and we are confident that other organizations will find it equally valuable.”

Space offers both a complimentary access level and paid subscription plans, beginning at $8 per active user each month for enhanced team collaboration capabilities. The platform is currently accessible via the cloud, with an on-premise deployment option planned for release in the coming months.

Its features encompass chat, meetings, calendars, task tracking, mobile applications, shared documents, issue boards, automated CI/CD pipelines, individual task lists, and a unique, turn-based system for code reviews.

Future updates to Space will include synchronization with Google Calendar and Outlook, as well as connectivity with other widely used applications. To enhance its adaptability, the development team has introduced an HTTP API, webhooks, the Space Client SDK, customizable fields, and automation features, with plans to add private and Marketplace applications, alongside further extensibility options, in the near future.
