Jeep Grand Cherokee Plug-In Hybrid: Release Date & Details

Jeep Unveils the Grand Cherokee 4xe Plug-In Hybrid

As announced, Jeep has released comprehensive details regarding its inaugural Grand Cherokee plug-in hybrid model. The manufacturer has officially stated that the Grand Cherokee 4xe will be available at dealerships across North America in early 2022.

This new vehicle is anticipated to deliver a notable level of performance. The estimated all-electric range of 25 miles, combined with a total range of 440 miles, may not fully accommodate every daily commute.

Enhanced Capabilities and Driving Modes

However, Jeep assures customers that this is a robust and capable PHEV. It’s engineered to tackle challenging terrain, including steep inclines, without engaging the 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine.

Drivers can select from multiple driving modes. A full hybrid mode maximizes performance, while an “eSave” mode conserves the 17kWh battery for future use.

Advanced In-Cabin Technology

The interior of the Grand Cherokee 4xe features updated technology. This includes 10-inch displays for both front and rear passengers, integrated with Fire TV functionality.

Rear passengers can enjoy streaming content from Prime Video. The driver benefits from a 10-inch display powered by the significantly faster Uconnect 5 platform, which supports over-the-air software updates.

Improved Off-Road Performance and Safety Features

Both the 4xe and its conventional counterparts showcase enhanced off-road capabilities. These improvements include semi-active damping for the air suspension system.

Furthermore, the SUV incorporates a front-axle disconnect feature. This system automatically disengages all-wheel drive when it’s not required, optimizing efficiency.

An optional Active Driving Assist system provides semi-autonomous driving assistance. This feature maintains operation as long as the driver keeps their hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road.

Jeep confirms a maximum towing capacity of 6,000lbs for the Grand Cherokee 4xe.

Availability and Future Plans

While pricing for the Grand Cherokee 4xe has not yet been disclosed, it will be offered in a range of trims. These include the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve editions.

This vehicle represents a significant step for the brand. Its parent company, Stellantis, is actively working to expand its electric vehicle offerings.

The company plans to introduce a fully electric version of each of its SUV models by the year 2025. The plug-in hybrid model is a crucial initial phase in this electrification strategy.
