iPhone Users Annoyed by Apple Wallet Ad for 'F1' Movie

Apple Wallet Ad for “F1 the Movie” Draws Customer Criticism

Apple customers have expressed dissatisfaction regarding an advertisement delivered through the Apple Wallet app, promoting the company’s original film, “F1 the Movie.” Reports across various social media platforms indicate that iPhone users received a push notification.

Details of the Promotion

The notification offered a $10 discount at Fandango for purchasers of two or more tickets to the film. This unsolicited marketing effort has sparked complaints among iPhone owners.

About the Film

“F1 the Movie” is a feature film starring Brad Pitt. It delves into the realm of Formula 1 racing and was filmed during actual Grand Prix races.

The production notably integrated Apple technology, including custom cameras constructed from iPhone components used for in-car filming. AirPods Max are also featured, worn by Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, while he sleeps.

User Reaction and Concerns

Despite potential positive reception of the film itself, many iPhone users object to receiving marketing materials through their core system utilities, such as their digital wallet.

One Reddit user (u/captain42d) stated, “I did not pay over $1000 for an iPhone to get advertised at.” Numerous other posts have appeared, seeking information on how to disable Apple Pay advertisements.

Current Options for Ad Control

Currently, a new option to disable “Offers & Promotions” from Apple Wallet is available only in the iOS 26 beta build.

Users on the current release version of iOS are limited to disabling notifications or opting out of seeing card benefits during checkout. A complete opt-out of promotional offers is not presently possible.

Future Marketing Plans

The inclusion of the new control toggle in iOS 26 suggests Apple intends to increase the volume of marketing messages and promotions delivered via the Wallet app. This prospect is likely to be unpopular with many iPhone users.

Past Instances of Customer Pushback

Apple customers have historically demonstrated resistance to unsolicited advertisements and marketing efforts on their devices. Previous objections were raised regarding ads for Apple’s services within the iOS Settings.

Furthermore, the unsolicited inclusion of the U2 album in iTunes music libraries over a decade ago continues to generate complaints.

Echoes of Past Controversies

One Reddit user referenced this past marketing incident, stating they were experiencing “Bono flashbacks” in response to the new Wallet notification for “F1.”

Apple’s Promotional Efforts

Apple, in collaboration with distribution partner Warner Bros., has been actively promoting “F1.” This includes the release of a haptic trailer featuring vibration feedback.

The company also began its recent WWDC 2025 keynote with a preview of the film’s action, featuring Apple CEO Tim Cook and SVP of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, in a racing simulation.
