Intel Announces New 11th-Gen U-Series Chips and 5G Module

During this year's virtual Computex event, Intel initiated proceedings with the announcement of two novel 11th-generation U-Series processors. These chips are specifically engineered for integration into exceptionally thin and lightweight laptop designs.

Furthermore, Intel revealed its inaugural 5G M.2 module tailored for laptop use. This module is the result of a collaborative effort with MediaTek, following Intel’s sale of its smartphone modem division to Apple in 2019.

New 11th-Gen U-Series Processors

Both of the newly introduced Intel processors incorporate Intel Iris Xe graphics. The leading processor is the Core i7-1195G7, boasting a base clock speed of 2.9 GHz.

Utilizing Intel’s Turbo Boost Max 3.0 technology, this chip can dynamically increase its clock speed to a maximum of 5.0 GHz on a single core. The second processor, the Core i5-1155G7, operates at a base clock speed of 2.5 GHz and can achieve a peak of 4.5 GHz.

Both processors feature a configuration of four cores and eight threads, providing enhanced multitasking capabilities.

5G Connectivity for Laptops

The 5G M.2 module, designated as the “5G Solution 5000,” provides support for 5G NR mid-band and sub-6 GHz frequencies. It also integrates eSIM technology for simplified connectivity.

Intel has established strategic partnerships with telecommunications providers across North America, EMEA, the APAC region, Japan, and Australia.

The module is anticipated to be featured in laptops from manufacturers including Acer, ASUS, and HP by the close of the current year.

Moreover, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are currently developing approximately 250 distinct designs based on the 11th-generation U-Series chips, with market availability projected for the holiday season.
