Installing Enlightenment on Ubuntu Linux

The standard Ubuntu desktop environment utilizes the Gnome window manager. However, a variety of alternative window managers are available for installation, including options like KDE, Xfce, Blackbox, and Fluxbox.

The process of installing Enlightenment is straightforward. It is recommended to ensure that you have enabled the appropriate alternate install repositories beforehand.

Installation Command

To begin the installation, open a terminal window and execute the following command:

sudo apt-get install enlightenment

Upon completion of the installation, proceed to log out of your current session.

Selecting Enlightenment

After logging out, locate and click the "Options" button, typically found in the lower-left corner of the screen.

A menu will appear, displaying a list of all window managers installed on your system. From this menu, choose Enlightenment to initiate a login with the new desktop environment.

Desktop Interaction

A key combination, Win+Alt, should bring up a helpful menu for navigating and interacting with the Enlightenment desktop. This menu provides access to essential functions.

For example, a middle mouse click will reveal a menu used for launching applications and accessing other features.

Accessing Settings

Right-clicking on the desktop surface will display the settings menu, offering convenient access to a range of desktop configuration options.
