Instacart Announces New CEO: Chris Rogers
Instacart revealed on Wednesday the appointment of Chris Rogers, currently the company’s chief business officer, as its new Chief Executive Officer. This transition will be effective starting August 15th.
Rogers will also assume a position on Instacart’s board of directors, further solidifying his leadership role within the organization.
Succession Following Fidji Simo’s Departure
The announcement follows closely on the heels of Fidji Simo’s decision to step down as CEO. Simo will be joining OpenAI as the CEO of Applications.
Despite her departure, Simo will retain her position as chair of the board at Instacart, ensuring continued guidance during the leadership change.
Rogers’ Extensive Experience at Instacart
Throughout his tenure as chief business officer, Rogers has been instrumental in overseeing key areas of Instacart’s operations.
These responsibilities included managing retailer relationships, driving expansions, leading ad sales and research & development, and overseeing partnerships, mergers & acquisitions, Instacart Business, and Instacart Health.
Prior Roles and Career Background
Rogers initially joined Instacart in 2019, bringing with him nearly eleven years of experience from Apple.
At Apple, he served as the managing director for Apple Canada.
Prior to Apple, Rogers began his career at Procter & Gamble, where he focused on managing relationships with major grocery retailers in Canada, as noted by Instacart.
Rogers’ Vision for Instacart’s Future
“Instacart is central to how families shop, eat, and live – and that’s what continually motivates me regarding our mission,” Rogers stated in a press release.
He emphasized the company’s commitment to transforming grocery shopping and addressing the everyday needs of consumers, alongside its partners.
Rogers expressed his confidence in Instacart’s team, technology, partnerships, and vision for the future.
Continued Focus on Retailers and Shoppers
In a blog post, Rogers affirmed that Instacart’s core vision will remain consistent under his leadership.
He reiterated the company’s “unwavering commitment to growing opportunities for both retailers and brands.”
Furthermore, Rogers pledged to enhance flexible earning opportunities for shoppers utilizing the Instacart platform.
Smooth Transition and Support from Simo
Fidji Simo communicated to employees that Rogers has been a pivotal figure in Instacart’s development.
She assured a seamless transition through continued collaboration in the coming months.
“We selected Chris due to his deep understanding of our partners, extensive operational expertise, and ability to align teams with our vision,” Simo explained in a letter to staff.
She expressed her excitement for Rogers to lead Instacart’s next phase of growth, confident in his dedication and ambition.
