Free Medical Visits for Afghan Refugees - Hims & Hers

Hims & Hers Provides Medical Support to Afghan Refugees
Andrew Dudum, co-founder and CEO of Hims & Hers, announced Thursday that his organization is actively distributing 10,000 primary care and mental health consultations to Afghan refugees who have been displaced.
Company Background
Established in 2017, Hims & Hers, headquartered in San Francisco, has developed a comprehensive telehealth platform.
This platform effectively connects individuals with qualified, licensed healthcare professionals across multiple specialties.
A Moral Imperative
In a recent blog post, Dudum articulated that Hims & Hers recognized a “moral responsibility to act – and to do so quickly.”
He further stated that global attention is understandably focused on Afghanistan and the large-scale evacuation of refugees, who are currently seeking fundamental necessities.
Implementation and Partnerships
Hims & Hers intends to collaborate with carefully selected NGOs, nonprofit organizations, and other pertinent partners.
This collaboration will include translators and the healthcare providers within their network, ensuring refugees are informed about available services and receive the necessary urgent support.
These medical visits are available to refugees immediately.
Financial Aspects
The CEO clarified that Hims & Hers will assume the financial responsibility for the cost of these medical visits.
However, the consultations will be provided by the generous healthcare professionals utilizing the company’s platform.
Inspired by Airbnb
Dudum shared on Twitter that this initiative was motivated by Brian Chesky, the CEO of Airbnb’s, recent declaration.
Chesky announced plans to offer complimentary temporary housing to 20,000 Afghan refugees globally, following the Taliban’s resurgence in Afghanistan.
Broader Context of the Crisis
These initiatives are occurring as tens of thousands of individuals attempt to leave Afghanistan.
Companies and governments are facing mounting pressure to provide assistance to refugees fleeing the country.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, there are currently almost 2.5 million registered refugees originating from Afghanistan.
As of earlier this week, approximately 58,700 people had been evacuated from Kabul, the nation’s capital, since mid-August.
Hims & Hers Business Model
While Hims & Hers has expanded into a telehealth platform, it also continues to offer sexual wellness products and other health services targeted towards millennials.
The company commenced public trading on the NYSE in January, following the completion of a reverse merger with Oaktree Acquisition Corp, a special purpose acquisition company.
