Fundtastic Secures $7.7M Series A to Revolutionize Indonesian Investment

Growth in Indonesian Retail Investing Drives FUNDtastic's Series A Funding
Despite the economic challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, participation in retail investing is demonstrably growing within Indonesia. This trend is particularly noticeable amongst individuals between the ages of 18 and 30.
Investment platform FUNDtastic recently announced the successful completion of a $7.7 million Series A funding round. This capital injection is intended to capitalize on the increasing demand and facilitate the development of new investment products tailored for individual investors, as reported by DealStreetAsia.
Details of the Funding Round
Ascend Capital Group, a Singapore-based investment firm, spearheaded the funding round. Additional participation came from various investors, notably Indivara Group, a prominent technology holding company.
FUNDtastic’s strategic plan involves expanding its current offerings beyond mutual funds and gold investments. The platform intends to incorporate retail bonds, insurance products, and peer-to-peer lending options.
Strategic Acquisition and Platform Growth
In a move to enhance its direct sales capabilities, FUNDtastic acquired Invisee, a portal specializing in mutual funds and securities, in the previous year for $6.5 million.
This acquisition allows FUNDtastic to offer mutual fund products directly to investors.
Indonesia's Evolving Investment Landscape
Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Jakarta, FUNDtastic was established by Harry Hartono, Franky Chandra, and Medwin Susilo.
Although investment in capital markets remains comparatively modest in Indonesia, with a historical preference for real estate, a shift is occurring. An increasing number of young professionals are diversifying their investment portfolios.
The Indonesian Stock Exchange is actively implementing initiatives designed to attract a larger base of retail investors.
Competitive Landscape
Several startups are focused on broadening access to retail investment opportunities for Indonesians. Notable examples include Ajaib and Bibit, both of which have recently secured funding to support their growth.
These companies are contributing to a more dynamic and accessible investment environment within Indonesia.
