Gredu Raises $4M Series A to Enhance EdTech Engagement

Gredu Secures $4 Million Series A Funding to Enhance Indonesian Education

A significant number of educators and parents across Indonesia utilize WhatsApp for communication, often leading to disorganized and inefficient interactions, resulting in lost information and confusion, according to Rizky Aniez, co-founder and CEO of Gredu.

Addressing Communication Challenges in Indonesian Schools

The Jakarta-based startup, Gredu, was established to provide a comprehensive solution for all stakeholders in the educational ecosystem – encompassing school administrators, teachers, parents, guardians, and students – with dedicated applications for streamlined tracking and communication.

Today, Gredu announces the successful completion of a $4 million Series A funding round. This investment is spearheaded by Intudo Ventures, a venture capital firm specializing in Indonesia, and includes participation from existing investor Vertex Ventures.

Designed for the Indonesian Curriculum

While platforms like Google Classroom are utilized by some, Gredu distinguishes itself by being specifically designed to integrate seamlessly with Indonesia’s K-12 National Curriculum and Islamic Curriculum programs, catering to both public and private educational institutions.

Furthermore, the startup is actively expanding its offerings to include software solutions tailored for preschools and university-level programs.

Growth and User Base

Since its founding in September 2016, Gredu has been adopted by over 400 schools, amassing a user base of 400,000 individuals.

The newly acquired Series A funding will be strategically allocated to facilitate expansion within the Greater Jakarta Region and into key cities throughout Indonesia. Resources will also be dedicated to ongoing product development and talent acquisition.

Gredu’s Comprehensive Software Suite

At the core of Gredu’s offering is a subscription-based software system that empowers administrators and teachers to efficiently manage their responsibilities. This includes syllabus management, scheduling, and communication with parents and students.

Aniez emphasized to TechCrunch that the implementation process is remarkably straightforward, often achievable within a matter of hours. The platform’s modular design allows for customization to meet the unique requirements of individual schools or districts.

Key Platform Components

The platform is comprised of four primary modules:

  • Gredu School Management System: Designed for administrative personnel.
  • Gredu Teacher: Enables educators to monitor student attendance, create and grade assessments, and organize classroom activities.
  • Gredu Parents: Provides parents and guardians with access to their children’s academic performance and facilitates communication with teachers.
  • Gredu Student: Allows students to view their test scores, attendance records, and school-related events.

Adapting to the Evolving Educational Landscape

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gredu introduced an Online Assignment feature. In response to the pandemic, the Interactive Class module was added to support remote learning initiatives.

Aniez stated that the company intends to enhance and repurpose Interactive Class for various applications as in-person learning resumes. He believes that the digital advancements adopted during the pandemic will persist, transforming school administration and enhancing transparency for educational authorities, teachers, and parents.

Part of a Growing Indonesian Edtech Sector

Gredu is among a wave of Indonesian edtech startups that have recently secured funding, including InfraDigital (tuition platform), CoLearn (homework help and tutoring), and ErudiFi (education financing).

Investor Perspective

Patrick Yip, founding partner at Intudo Ventures, commented, “GREDU delivers innovative solutions, developed in collaboration with school districts and administrators, specifically to improve the quality, transparency, and effectiveness of Indonesia’s education system. We are pleased to support GREDU as they expand their reach and positively impact students across Indonesia.”
