Importing Gmail Contacts into Thunderbird
Gmail provides a robust email service, while Thunderbird is a highly capable, free email client.
Integrating your Gmail account with Thunderbird is a streamlined process. Thunderbird version 2.0 and later offer a dedicated feature for this purpose.
Exporting Contacts from Gmail
Begin by logging into your Gmail account. Navigate to the Contacts section and choose whether to export specific contacts or your entire contact list.
Select the CSV (Comma Separated Values) format to ensure compatibility for importing into Thunderbird. Then, click the Export button to initiate the download.
The contact file will be downloaded to a location on your computer’s hard drive. Tools like the Firefox extension DownloadThemAll can assist with managing downloads.
Importing into Thunderbird
Next, launch Thunderbird and access the Import function through the Tools menu. Proceed by clicking Next, keeping the default selection in place.
Choose the option for Text file (LDIF,.tab,.csv,.txt) and click Next to continue the import process.
A file explorer window will appear, allowing you to locate the saved Gmail contacts file. You may need to select “All Files” to view the .csv file, then double-click to select it.
You will then be prompted to specify the data to be transferred. Make your desired selections and click OK to proceed.
The import process will now execute. Once completed, your Gmail contacts will be successfully integrated into Thunderbird.
