Imagen 4: Google's Newest AI Image Generator

Google Introduces Imagen 4: A New AI Image Generator
Google is currently deploying its latest artificial intelligence model for image generation, Imagen 4. The company asserts that this new model produces images of a superior quality compared to its predecessor, Imagen 3.
Enhanced Detail and Versatility
Presented at Google I/O 2025 on Tuesday, Imagen 4 demonstrates the ability to render intricate details. These include textures like fabrics, the realism of water droplets, and the complexity of animal fur, according to Google.
The model exhibits proficiency in both photorealistic and abstract artistic styles. It can generate images across various aspect ratios and resolutions up to 2K.
Improvements in Text and Topography Rendering
“Imagen 4 represents a substantial advancement in image quality,” stated Josh Woodward, head of Google’s Labs group, during a press conference. “Significant attention has also been given to refining the generation of text and topographical elements.”
This enhancement makes it particularly suitable for creating presentations, invitations, or any visual material requiring the integration of imagery and text.
Standing Out in a Competitive Landscape
The market for AI image generators is rapidly expanding. Numerous tools, such as the viral offering from ChatGPT and Midjourney’s V7, are readily available.
These existing generators are generally sophisticated, highly customizable, and capable of producing high-quality artwork. However, Google highlights key differentiators for Imagen 4.
Speed and Performance
Google reports that Imagen 4 operates with increased speed compared to Imagen 3. Further performance gains are anticipated in the near future.
A variant of Imagen 4, projected to be up to ten times faster than Imagen 3, is planned for release shortly.
Availability and Integration
As of today, Imagen 4 is accessible within the Gemini app. It is also integrated into Google’s Whisk and Vertex AI platforms.
Furthermore, the model is available across various Google Workspace applications, including Slides, Vids, and Docs.
