Nursefly Rebrands to Vivian Health: Expanding Healthcare Job Marketplace

Vivian Health: Expanding Beyond Travel Nursing

NurseFly, a healthcare job marketplace and a portfolio company of IAC, has undergone a rebranding to Vivian Health. This change reflects a significant expansion of the platform’s services beyond its initial focus.

Initially established to connect traveling nurses with short-term assignments, Vivian Health now encompasses job postings for permanent roles, per diem positions, and local healthcare opportunities.

New Features and Data Resources

The platform has been enhanced with valuable resources for both job seekers and employers. These additions include comprehensive employer reviews and a detailed pay database.

This pay database leverages data derived from the 1.7 million job listings processed through the system, providing insights into current compensation trends.

Growth and Acquisition

Founded in 2017, NurseFly was acquired by IAC in August 2019. The platform is currently utilized by prominent healthcare providers such as AMN Healthcare, Cross Country Healthcare, Host Healthcare, Trinity Health, SSM Health, and Honor Health.

The demand surge during the pandemic prompted a rapid expansion of Vivian Health’s workforce, with the company quadrupling its employee base to meet the increased needs, as stated by founder and CEO Parth Bhakta in correspondence with TechCrunch.

Addressing Critical Staffing Needs

Vivian Health has become a key player in addressing critical staffing shortages. The platform successfully fills approximately 10% of all travel nursing positions nationwide.

Often, crisis positions are filled within hours, a significantly faster timeframe than the weeks previously required.

However, health systems communicated that the difficulties in securing permanent staff were often even more pressing than filling temporary travel assignments.

These permanent roles were frequently taking months to fill, incurring substantial hiring costs, and contributing to understaffed facilities.

Platform Rebuild and Expansion

In response to these challenges, the Vivian Health team dedicated three months to rebuilding the platform. This rebuild aimed to cater to a broader spectrum of healthcare professionals and employers.

This rebranding and expansion coincide with a period where many healthcare workers are experiencing burnout due to the pressures of the pandemic.

Burnout and Staffing Trends

A recent Vivian Health study, surveying 1,300 respondents, revealed that 83% reported a negative impact on their mental health from working in healthcare over the past year.

Furthermore, approximately 43% of respondents indicated they had contemplated leaving the profession.

A primary driver of burnout is excessive overtime, with 86% of respondents reporting staffing shortages within their facilities, even as the demand for healthcare professionals continues to rise.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 15% increase in healthcare employment between 2018 and 2028, growing from 17.3 million to 19.9 million, establishing it as one of the fastest-growing sectors.

Accelerating the Hiring Process

The lengthy hiring process for permanent employees – sometimes extending up to 120 days – exacerbates staffing shortages. Reducing this timeframe has a cascading positive effect.

Clinicians experience less overtime, and recruiters can concentrate their efforts on qualified candidates.

Employers utilizing Vivian Health have successfully filled permanent positions in as little as one week, with a typical timeframe of 30 days.

Transparency and Data-Driven Insights

Vivian Health has developed a unique, proprietary dataset of healthcare industry information. This dataset is built upon the 1.7 million job postings processed through its systems.

The platform requires all staffing agency partners to include pay rates in their listings, providing job seekers with valuable compensation comparisons.

Employers can leverage this data to adjust their rates and remain competitive in the market.

Bhakta emphasized that the addition of pay information aligns with Vivian Health’s commitment to transparency, a key element in resolving the healthcare hiring crisis.
