Hugging Face Unveils New Humanoid Robots

Hugging Face Expands Robotics Initiatives with New Humanoid Robots

On Thursday, Hugging Face, a leading AI development platform, furthered its involvement in the field of robotics through the unveiling of two novel humanoid robots.

Introducing HopeJR and Reachy Mini

The company announced the release of a pair of robots built on an open source foundation: HopeJR and Reachy Mini. HopeJR is a full-scale humanoid robot boasting 66 actuated degrees of freedom, enabling a wide range of movements including ambulation and arm manipulation.

Reachy Mini, conversely, is designed as a desktop unit. It possesses the ability to articulate its head, engage in vocal communication, process auditory input, and serve as a platform for testing AI applications.

Availability and Timeline

While a definitive shipping schedule remains unconfirmed, Hugging Face anticipates commencing shipments of initial units before the year's end. A waitlist for these robots is currently accepting registrations, as communicated by co-founder and CEO Clem Delangue to TechCrunch.

The estimated cost for the HopeJR robot is approximately $3,000 per unit. Reachy Mini is projected to be priced between $250 and $300, with final costs potentially influenced by applicable tariffs.

Open Source Philosophy and Accessibility

Delangue emphasized the significance of the robots’ open source nature. This allows for disassembly, reconstruction, and comprehensive understanding of their operational mechanisms.

Furthermore, the affordability of these robots aims to prevent the robotics landscape from being dominated by a limited number of large corporations employing proprietary, potentially opaque systems.

Acquisition of Pollen Robotics

The development and release of these robots were facilitated, in part, by Hugging Face’s acquisition of Pollen Robotics, a humanoid robotics startup, which was finalized in April.

Delangue stated that the Pollen Robotics team contributed essential expertise and capabilities necessary for the creation of these robotic platforms.

Continued Investment in Robotics

Hugging Face has demonstrated a growing commitment to the robotics sector in recent years. In 2024, the company launched LeRobot, a comprehensive collection of AI models, datasets, and tools designed for the development of robotic systems.

Recent Developments in 2025

This year, Hugging Face released an updated version of its 3D-printed and programmable robotic arm, the SO-101, developed in collaboration with The Robot Studio, a French robotics company.

Additionally, the company expanded the training data available on its LeRobot platform. This expansion was achieved through a partnership with Yaak, an AI startup, and now includes data specifically for training autonomous machines.
