Gesture-Based Control with Trigger for Android

The Google Play Store offers a multitude of launchers, yet they generally function in a similar manner. However, Trigger distinguishes itself by maximizing the utility of your device’s touchscreen through the implementation of gesture-based controls for launching applications and accessing settings.

A New Approach to Gesture Launchers

Gesture launchers aren’t entirely novel; tools like StrokesPlus for Windows utilize mouse gestures, and Google Gesture Search provides gesture-based searching on Android.

Trigger expands upon this concept, enabling the assignment of a greater number of actions to individual gestures. This approach is both innovative and significantly streamlines device operation.

How Trigger Works

With Trigger, you can quickly toggle features like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, initiate specific applications, or even compose new messages – all with a simple gesture.

Gestures can be initiated by either activating the trigger, which displays a hotzone for drawing, or by pulling the trigger to a designated hotspot. The trigger icon’s visibility is customizable; it can be hidden and accessed via the search button, a phone shake, or the notification bar, or remain permanently displayed.

Setting Up Your Gestures

A brief tutorial guides new users through the setup process. To begin, select the desired action type – such as launching Apps or accessing Settings – and then tap the plus (+) button.

Next, choose the specific application, setting, website, or action to be triggered. Tap the list to make your selection, then draw the corresponding gesture in the scratch pad and confirm with the tick button.

Optimizing Gesture Recognition

Perfectly replicating a gesture consistently can be challenging, so practice is recommended. Utilize the Gesture Test to fine-tune the sensitivity and accuracy settings.

The app will rate your drawn gesture. Initially, aim for an accuracy level of 2.0, adjusting this value using the < and > buttons as needed.

Useful Gestures and Swipe Effects

Numerous gestures can significantly enhance usability. Trigger can simplify tasks like enabling airplane mode or creating new calendar events with a swift gesture.

For even quicker access, swipes can be configured. Navigate to the Swipe Effects section within the app’s settings. Select a compass direction and define the action to be performed when the Trigger icon is dragged in that direction.

Trigger Versions: Free vs. Paid

Trigger is offered in two versions. The free version is supported by advertisements and limits the number of available gestures to six. A paid version removes both the ads and the gesture limit.
