Belkin WeMo Switch Automation: Turn On/Off Automatically

Automating Your Belkin WeMo Switch: A Comprehensive Guide
Beyond remote control via your smartphone, the Belkin WeMo Switch offers the convenience of automated operation through its built-in automation features.
Both the standard WeMo Switch and the WeMo Insight Switch provide these capabilities, enabling scheduled on/off cycles. This makes them ideal for applications like controlling lamps on a timer or managing the runtime of a space heater. Importantly, the setup process remains consistent across both switch models.
Setting Up Automation: A Step-by-Step Approach
Before proceeding, ensure your WeMo Switch is fully configured. If not, consult our setup guide and return here once completed.
With your WeMo Switch operational, launch the WeMo app on your mobile device and navigate to the "Rules" tab located at the bottom of the screen.
Select the option "By time, sunrise/sunset" to begin configuring your automation schedule.
On the subsequent screen, identify and select the WeMo Switch you wish to automate under the "Turn On/Off" section. If you possess only one WeMo Switch, this selection will be straightforward.
Upon selecting a switch, additional options will appear. To define the switch's activation time, tap the "on" option.
Next, tap "On" located beneath the "When" label.
Tap on "Time" to specify the desired activation time for the WeMo Switch. Confirm your selection by tapping "Done".
Below "Days", deselect any days on which you do not want the switch to activate. If continuous operation is desired, no changes are necessary. Tap "Done" in the top-right corner to save your settings.
Assign a descriptive name to the automation rule under "Rule Name". For example, "Living Room Light On" is a suitable option. Tap "Save" in the top-right corner when finished.
The newly created rule will now appear in the list. To complete the automation, tap the "+" icon in the top-right corner of the screen to configure the switch's deactivation time.
Repeat the previous steps, but this time select "off" instead of "on".
When naming the rule, maintain the same structure as before, substituting "On" with "Off". Tap "Save" in the top-right corner to finalize the settings.
You will now see both rules listed.
Selecting either rule allows you to disable or delete it. Disabling a rule prevents its activation without removing it entirely, enabling easy re-activation when needed.
For comprehensive lighting automation, smart light bulbs represent another viable solution. However, the Belkin WeMo Switch provides a more cost-effective alternative for automating a limited number of lamps.
