How to Take Screenshots on Android Auto - A Simple Guide

Capturing Screenshots on Android Auto

Android devices have long included built-in screenshot capabilities. Given the importance of this feature, all accessories manufactured by Google also provide support for taking screenshots. While the setting is readily accessible on Android Wear, locating it on Android Auto requires a bit more effort.

Enabling Developer Settings

The initial step involves activating Developer Settings within the Android Auto application. This is achieved by repeatedly tapping on the "Android Auto" text displayed at the top of the screen – specifically, ten times. A more comprehensive guide to Developer Settings can be found with a separate resource.

Once Developer Settings are enabled, access the menu by tapping the three-button overflow menu located in the upper right corner of the screen. Then, select “Developer Settings” from the options presented.

Taking a Screenshot

Within the Developer Settings menu, you’ll discover a variety of options. The specific setting needed to capture screenshots is labeled “Share screenshot now.” Select this option to initiate the process.

It is important to note that your phone must be connected to an Android Auto head unit for this function to operate correctly.

Upon taking a screenshot, a share dialog will appear, allowing you to distribute the image as desired. If you choose not to share immediately, the screenshot will be saved to the root directory of your Pictures folder for later access.

Alternatively, for better organization, you can upload the screenshot to a dedicated folder within Google Drive.

Important Safety Considerations

Under no circumstances should you attempt to take screenshots while driving. If something on the screen requires your attention, safely pull over before capturing an image. Prioritize safety and avoid distractions while operating a vehicle.

Remember, it’s crucial to remain focused on the road. A fleeting image isn’t worth the risk.
