Apple's New Software and Apple Intelligence

On Monday, Apple launched a series of software updates. These included iOS 18.3, which automatically enrolls users in Apple Intelligence, initially for compatible devices.

Contrary to prevailing opinions within the technology sector, not all users desire generative AI features to be activated by default. Concerns regarding the environmental impact of the AI industry, the political stances of its leading figures, or simply a lack of current functionality may lead individuals to disable these new features.

Early indications suggest that Apple Intelligence may not yet be performing optimally, as evidenced by dedicated online forums discussing its shortcomings.

Disabling Apple Intelligence

This guide provides instructions on how to deactivate Apple Intelligence on your devices. The process is consistent across iPhones, iPads, and Macs and is relatively simple to execute.

Navigate to Settings on iOS devices, or System Settings on macOS. Subsequently, select Apple Intelligence.

On Mac, if the feature is currently enabled, disable it by toggling the switch to the off position. Consider also deactivating Siri at this juncture.

A confirmation prompt will appear upon toggling the switch, requiring you to confirm your decision to discontinue use of Apple Intelligence.

iOS Specific Instructions

When accessing the Settings application on iOS, scroll down to locate Apple Intelligence & Siri. Tap the toggle to disable the feature.

For enhanced privacy and security, particularly concerning Siri’s functionality on the lock screen, we recommend also disabling Siri at this time.
