Set Up Email Notifications for Windows Home Server

Staying Informed: Setting Up Email Notifications for Windows Home Server
Given that home servers typically operate continuously, and are frequently run in a headless configuration, it’s beneficial to be alerted to specific events occurring on your server without the need for constant manual checks. Email notifications provide a convenient solution to this challenge.
The initial step in configuring email notifications within Windows Home Server involves launching the Dashboard interface.
Upon opening the Dashboard, select the “Notifications” button.
This action will direct you to the Alert Viewer. From here, click the link labeled “Set up email notification for alerts.”
Clicking the “Enable” button will then display a form requesting details for your SMTP Server. Any SMTP server can be utilized for this purpose.
For this example, a dedicated email account was established for the home server, leveraging a personal domain and Google Apps. Consequently, the standard Gmail SMTP server settings are being employed. Confirm your entries and then click “Ok.”
Next, input the email addresses of all individuals who should receive alerts generated by Windows Home Server.
Finally, click the “Apply and send email” button to finalize the configuration.
A brief delay will be followed by a confirmation message indicating successful transmission of the test email.
Verification can be performed by checking your inbox; a test email should be present, confirming that future notifications will be delivered.
