Set a Timer on Your Belkin WeMo Switch - Easy Guide

Automating Your Appliances with the Belkin WeMo Switch

The WeMo Switch represents an affordable and user-friendly method for introducing smart home functionality. This smart outlet empowers you to transform any device equipped with a simple on/off switch into a remotely controllable smart appliance, managed directly from your smartphone.

Furthermore, the WeMo Switch incorporates several automation capabilities. A particularly useful feature is the ability to establish a timer, causing the device to power down automatically after a predetermined duration.

Setting a Timer on Your WeMo Switch

This timer functionality is available on both the standard WeMo Switch and the advanced WeMo Insight Switch, with the setup process remaining consistent across both models. Once activated, the timer initiates a countdown whenever the switch is turned on, ultimately shutting off the device after the specified time has elapsed.

Re-engaging the switch restarts the countdown sequence. This is especially beneficial for scenarios like reading in bed, where automatic light shut-off is desired.

Step-by-Step Guide to Timer Configuration

Begin by launching the WeMo application on your mobile device and navigating to the "Rules" tab located at the bottom of the screen.

Select the option labeled "With Auto-off Timer".

At the top of the screen, under the "Turn Off" heading, choose the specific WeMo Switch to which you wish to apply the timer setting. This step is necessary if you have multiple WeMo devices connected.

Next, define the duration for which the timer will run before the WeMo Switch automatically deactivates. Predefined time options are available, or you can select "Custom" and then tap "Set" to input a specific value.

If you opt for a custom time, utilize a finger gesture to adjust the dial to your desired duration. Confirm your selection by tapping "Save".

Following this, tap on "All Day, Daily" under the "When" section.

This allows you to customize when the timer is active, selecting specific days of the week or even a defined time window. Alternatively, you can leave the settings as they are to ensure the timer is consistently enabled.

Once configured, tap "Done" in the top-right corner of the screen.

Under "Rule Name", you have the option to assign a descriptive name to the timer. Then, tap "Save" in the top-right corner to finalize the settings.

The newly created timer will now appear within your list of established rules.

Managing Your Timer Rules

To remove a timer rule, simply swipe left on it and select the "Delete" option.

Alternatively, tapping on the rule will reveal detailed information, including a "Delete Rule" option. From this screen, you can also quickly toggle the rule's status between enabled and disabled.

While a one-time, quick timer setup isn't directly available, creating and customizing a rule provides a flexible solution. Once established, the rule can be easily activated or deactivated as needed.
