Nest Thermostat Schedule: A Step-by-Step Guide

Setting a Schedule on Your Nest Thermostat
The Nest Thermostat possesses the ability to adapt to your heating and cooling habits, making automatic temperature adjustments over time. However, if you prefer to define precise temperatures for particular periods, configuring a schedule is the solution.
Programming a Schedule via the Nest App
Similar functionality exists in many programmable thermostats, but the Nest simplifies the process. Scheduling can be completed rapidly and conveniently through your smartphone using the Nest app.
Alternatively, you can directly program the schedule on the thermostat itself. The following instructions detail both methods.
Using the Thermostat Directly
The Nest Learning Thermostat offers a user-friendly interface for schedule creation. Adjustments can be made directly on the device, providing an alternative to app-based control.
This allows for flexibility in how you manage your home's temperature settings. You can choose the method that best suits your preferences and accessibility.
Using the Nest Application
Begin by launching the Nest app and selecting your Nest Thermostat from the primary display.

Navigate to the "Schedule" option located at the bottom of the screen.

A calendar-like interface will appear, resembling a typical spreadsheet. Select a day of the week to begin; let's start with "Monday".

Press the "Add" button in the screen's lower-right corner.

A grid will then be displayed. Tap on the vertical axis, above the desired time, to assign a specific temperature. For example, to set 72 degrees at 6 AM, tap directly above "6A".

Upon tapping, a marker will appear, displaying the selected temperature and time.

To modify the temperature to 72 degrees, press and hold the marker, then drag it upwards until "72" is shown.

Adjust the time by tapping and holding the marker, then dragging it horizontally. Time settings can be made on the hour or in 15-minute increments, such as 6:00, 6:15, or 6:30.

Once the desired temperature and time are set, that specific setting is complete. Repeat the process to add additional settings.

You can swipe left to move to the next day and configure its temperature preferences. If a consistent temperature of 72 degrees at 6 AM is desired daily, these steps must be repeated for each day of the week. However, individual day settings can also be customized.
To delete a setting, tap "Remove" in the bottom-right corner, then select the entry to be deleted.

Existing entries can be modified by tapping and holding them, then adjusting their position vertically or horizontally.
Managing Schedules on Your Nest Thermostat
A schedule can be directly configured and modified on the Nest Thermostat itself, utilizing its scroll wheel and integrated display.
Initiate the process by selecting the thermostat unit to access the primary menu.

Employ the silver scroll wheel to navigate to the "Schedule" option and confirm your selection by clicking on the unit.

Upon reaching the Schedule screen, a single click on the unit will allow you to begin defining scheduled temperatures for your Nest Thermostat; choose "New" to add a new time point.

Utilize the scroll wheel to pinpoint the desired time of day, then click the unit to confirm this selection.

Subsequently, rotate the wheel to establish the precise temperature setting for that specific time. Confirm your choice with another click on the unit.

This entry will then be saved automatically. You can proceed to create additional schedule entries as needed.

To modify an existing schedule entry, navigate to it and click when it is highlighted. Options to "Change" or "Remove" the entry will then be presented.

These steps represent the complete process for setting a schedule on your Nest Thermostat. It is demonstrably simpler than programming many traditional, non-smart programmable thermostats.
