Android Nougat Lock Screen Wallpaper: A How-To Guide

The Dual Wallpaper Dilemma: A Solution for Android Users

Many smartphone users eventually find themselves captivated by two distinct wallpapers. Deciding which one to use can be a challenge. Fortunately, a straightforward solution exists: assign one wallpaper to the lock screen and another to the home screen.

Previously, users of stock Android devices were limited to a single wallpaper. This restriction meant a compromise had to be made.

Android 7.0 Nougat and Beyond

The ability to utilize separate wallpapers for the lock and home screens was initially offered by several third-party Android manufacturers. However, with the introduction of Android 7.0 Nougat, this feature became available to a wider audience. This allows users to personalize their device with two different images.

Currently, this functionality is primarily supported by the Google Now Launcher, which is the default launcher on Nexus devices. If you haven’t switched to an alternative launcher, you’re already prepared to take advantage of this feature.

For Users of Alternative Launchers

If you currently employ a different launcher, such as Nova Launcher, a minor adjustment is required. Simply revert to the Google Now Launcher temporarily. Configure your desired wallpapers, and then you can return to your preferred launcher. The selected wallpapers will remain in place even after switching launchers.

Assuming you have switched back to the Google Now Launcher, let’s proceed with the setup.

Begin by performing a long press on the home screen. This action will reveal the launcher’s options menu. Then, select “Wallpapers.”

Within the Wallpapers menu, browse the available options and choose the wallpaper you wish to apply. You can begin with either the lock screen or the home screen, as the order is irrelevant.

If the desired wallpaper isn’t immediately visible, tap the “My photos” button to access images stored on your device. Once selected, tap the image and then press the “Set wallpaper” button located in the top left corner.

A dialog box will appear, prompting you to choose whether to apply the wallpaper to the Home screen, Lock screen, or both. Select the appropriate option based on your current goal.

After setting the wallpaper, you will be returned to the home screen. Repeat the process to configure the remaining wallpaper. The setup is remarkably simple.

If you temporarily changed launchers to set the wallpapers, you can now revert to your launcher of choice. Enjoy your newly personalized device.
