Apple Maps: View Transit Routes & Satellite Imagery

Apple Maps: Exploring Transit and Satellite Views
Significant improvements have been made to Apple Maps since its initial release. A useful feature, often overlooked, allows users to switch between viewing maps with public transit routes displayed or utilizing detailed satellite imagery.
Default Map View and Navigation
The standard map presentation, as seen on an iPad, offers familiar functionality. Users can easily zoom, rotate, and search for specific locations or addresses.
To access alternative map views, tap the "i" icon located in the upper-right corner of the Maps interface.
Accessing Map Settings
This action reveals the Maps Settings menu. Within this menu, numerous options are available, including the ability to add places and pinpoint your current location.
However, the primary focus here is on the three distinct map view options presented along the top of the screen.
Utilizing the Transit View
Selecting the Transit view displays all available mass transit and public transportation options within the visible area.
Within the transit view, zooming in and tapping on specific points provides detailed information. This includes directional guidance and scheduled departure times.
Exploring the Satellite View
Returning to the Maps Settings, selecting the Satellite view allows for the activation of traffic and label overlays.
The satellite view presents a detailed aerial perspective of the area, incorporating real-time traffic conditions and geographical labels.
macOS Version Features
On the macOS version of Maps, the three map mode buttons are readily accessible from the top-right corner of the application window.
In the bottom-left corner, users can toggle the traffic overlay and enable the immersive 3D Map view.
The 3D mapping feature provides a compelling virtual sightseeing experience. Users can zoom, adjust the viewing angle, and access information about points of interest.
With these features, Apple Maps empowers users to view locations from an aerial perspective and efficiently locate nearby public transportation options, including real-time departure information.
