Remove Reminders in Google Calendar - Quick Guide

Google Calendar Reminders: How to Hide or Disable Them

Reminders were initially introduced to the Google Calendar application for both Android and iOS users in December 2015.

Recently, this functionality has been extended to the web version of Google Calendar, potentially appearing as new entries within your existing schedule.

Should you prefer to conceal these reminders, or revert to utilizing Google Tasks, the process is straightforward.

Integration with Other Google Apps

Users of the Google ecosystem – including Google Now, Google Inbox, and Google Keep – have the ability to establish reminders.

These tools are designed to synchronize with reminders displayed in your Google Calendar.

Currently, Google Now, Inbox, and Keep are considered more reliable platforms for both creating and overseeing reminders.

Potential Issues with Google Calendar Reminders

The synchronization of reminders across various devices using Google Calendar can sometimes be inconsistent.

We believe that the inclusion of reminders within Google Calendar introduces unnecessary complexity.

Therefore, the following instructions detail how to disable reminders in Google Calendar on both web browsers and mobile devices (Android and iOS).

Managing Reminders in Google Calendar on Desktop

The process of eliminating Reminders from your Google Calendar is surprisingly straightforward. Despite its simplicity, discovering the method can initially prove elusive. Since Reminders function as a distinct calendar, removal is achieved through the web interface of Google Calendar.

Access Google Calendar via a web browser, and you’ll observe a “Reminders” label within the left-hand sidebar. This label is positioned alongside your other calendars.

Hiding Reminders from View

Simply clicking on the “Reminders” label will effectively conceal them from your calendar’s primary display.

Upon deactivation, the colored box associated with Reminders will revert to white, signifying that all reminders linked to that Google account are no longer visible within the calendar.

Currently, a complete removal of the Reminders feature isn’t possible. However, hiding the calendar provides a practical solution, preventing future visibility of these items.

Switching Back to Google Tasks

For users who prefer Google Tasks, an alternative exists: reverting to the Google Tasks system. This can be done by clicking the downward-facing arrow located to the right of the Reminders label.

From the resulting pop-up menu, select the “Switch to Tasks” option.

This action will replace the Reminders label in the left sidebar with the Tasks label.

Consequently, the Tasks pane will become visible on the right-hand side of the calendar interface.

Mobile Synchronization with Google Tasks

To ensure accessibility of your Google Tasks on mobile devices, consider utilizing third-party applications such as Gtasks for Android or Gtasks for iOS. These apps facilitate synchronization with Google Tasks.

Managing Reminders in Google Calendar on Android and iOS

Disabling Reminders on iOS Devices

The procedure for turning off reminders in the Google Calendar app for iOS is largely identical. Initiate the process by tapping the menu button situated in the upper-left corner of the screen within the application.

It’s important to note that once Reminders are disabled within Google Calendar on a specific platform, any new reminders created in Google Now, Inbox, or Keep will not be visible in your Google Calendar on that same platform.

This ensures a consistent experience and prevents duplication of reminder information across different Google services.
