iOS Text to Speech: Have Articles & Books Read Aloud

Utilizing the Speak Screen Feature on iOS

The Speak Screen functionality within iOS allows your device to audibly convey the content displayed on your screen. Activation is simple: perform a two-finger downward swipe from the top edge of the screen.

This feature is versatile, capable of reading a wide range of content, including settings menus, websites, and electronic books. It offers a valuable solution for individuals with visual impairments, but also proves beneficial when you wish to consume written material without direct visual focus.

Setting Up Speak Screen

To begin, launch the Settings application on your iOS device and navigate to the General section.

Customizing Speak Screen

Upon enabling Speak Screen, additional settings become available. The Voices option allows you to select from a variety of voices, encompassing different languages and dialects, and designate a default voice.

The Speaking Rate slider controls the speed at which the text is read. This rate can also be adjusted dynamically while Speak Screen is active, making pre-setting it less crucial. Activating Highlight Content causes the currently read text to be highlighted on the screen, aiding comprehension.

A control panel will appear, providing options to pause the speech, navigate forward or backward, and adjust the reading speed using the turtle and rabbit icons.

In conclusion, Speak Screen is a powerful tool for multitasking and accessibility. Whether you require assistance with visual content or simply prefer to listen while engaged in other activities, this feature offers a convenient and effective solution for consuming digital text.
