Apple Maps: Adding Food & Gas Stops to Your Route

Apple Maps Now Lets You Add Stops to Your Route

Apple Maps has seen significant improvements with each iteration, becoming a viable alternative to Google Maps for many users. A particularly useful recent addition is the ability to seamlessly integrate stops into your planned journeys.

Consider a lengthy road trip, for example, a drive to New York City. Planning for necessary breaks – refueling and meals – is crucial. Now, you can proactively include these stops directly within your route from your starting location.

After completing a stop, whether for gas or a meal, resuming your original itinerary is straightforward. The following steps will demonstrate how to utilize this feature.

Initially, the complete trip from your origin to your destination is displayed, encompassing all planned segments. To begin navigation, select your desired route and tap the green "GO" button associated with it.

Before commencing travel, it may be necessary to refuel your vehicle. To access additional options, swipe upwards from the bottom of the screen.

This action reveals convenient choices for locating gas stations, lunch spots, and coffee shops. Select the "Gas Stations" option to proceed.

Apple Maps will then present a list of nearby gas stations. Choose your preferred location by tapping the green "GO" button next to its listing.

A new route will then be overlaid onto your original plan, guiding you to the selected gas station. Importantly, this addition doesn’t disrupt your primary route; it temporarily pauses it to accommodate your stop.

Once you are ready to continue your journey, simply tap the blue bar located at the top of the screen.

Beyond this feature, Apple Maps offers several hidden functionalities, such as the ability to pause podcasts and audiobooks during spoken navigation. Users can also choose between different map views – standard map, transit, and satellite – and the feature set continues to expand.

Benefits of Using Apple Maps

  • Route Flexibility: Easily add stops for gas, food, or breaks.
  • Seamless Integration: Stops are added without disrupting the original route.
  • Growing Feature Set: Apple Maps is continually evolving with new capabilities.

As Apple Maps continues to develop, it is increasingly becoming a core feature within the iOS and macOS ecosystems. If you haven't explored Apple Maps recently, or are considering switching from another navigation app, now is an opportune time to do so.
