Customize Orange Firefox Menu - A How-To Guide

Customizing the Firefox Menu with Personal Menu
Firefox offers a high degree of customization, allowing users to tailor the browser to their specific needs. Beyond simply altering the appearance of elements like the Firefox menu button, it’s possible to modify the menu’s contents themselves. This can be achieved through the addition, removal, and reordering of options.
Introducing the Personal Menu Add-on
The Personal Menu add-on for Firefox provides a powerful interface for editing the Firefox menu. It also enables the inclusion of toolbar buttons and the creation of entirely custom menus, enhancing the browser’s functionality.
Installation Process
To begin, navigate to the Personal Menu Add-ons page (available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/personal-menu/). Locate and click the "Add to Firefox" button on the page to initiate the installation.
A Software Installation dialog will appear. Click "Install Now" to proceed; this option may become available after a brief countdown period.
Note: While the countdown duration on the Install button can be adjusted, it is generally recommended to leave it enabled.
A restart of Firefox is required to complete the installation. Select "Restart Now" from the displayed popup dialog.
Editing the Firefox Menu
Once Firefox reopens, access the "Edit This Menu" option directly from the Firefox menu itself.
The Personal Menu Options dialog box will then be displayed. The available menu items are listed on the left side, while a representation of the current Firefox menu is shown on the right.
To add a new item, select the item *after* which you wish to insert the new entry. For instance, to position the Tools menu below the Web Developer menu, select "Web Developer" on the right and "Tools" under "Menu Bar" on the left, then click the "Add" button (represented by a green plus sign).
Rearranging Menu Items
To change the order of items within the menu, utilize the blue arrow buttons. To move the Tools menu above the Web Developer menu, select "Tools" on the right and click the "Up" arrow button.
Separators can be added to visually group menu items. To add a line below the Tools menu, select "Tools" on the right and "Separator" on the left, then click "Add".
Click "Apply" to implement the changes to the menu.
Changes can be tested immediately without closing the Personal Menu Options dialog. Simply access the Firefox menu to view the added or modified items.
Adding Toolbar Boxes
If you frequently use the Firefox menu and toolbar buttons, a Toolbar Box can be added to the menu for quick access. Select the menu item after which you want to place the Toolbar Box, then select "Toolbar Box" from the list on the left and click "Add".
The Customize dialog box will appear. You can choose to hide the menu after clicking a button in the Toolbar Box by selecting the "Hide menu after clicking" checkbox. Adjust the Toolbar Box’s size by selecting "Use Small Icons". Choose the display style (Icons and Text, Icons, or Text) from the "Show" dropdown. Click "OK".
Ensure "Edit This Menu" is selected below the added Toolbar Box. This will display the available toolbar buttons on the left. Select a desired button and click "Add" to add it to the Toolbar Box.
Note: Once a button is added to the Toolbar Box, you can view the available buttons on the left by selecting any button within the Toolbar Box on the right.
Use the blue arrow buttons to rearrange the order of buttons within the Toolbar Box. Click "Apply" to save your changes.
The Toolbar Box will now be visible on the Firefox menu.
Customizing Toolbar Buttons
Upon installation of Personal Menu, Bookmarks and History buttons are automatically added to your toolbar.
These buttons can be customized using the Bookmarks and History tabs within the Personal Menu Options dialog box.
Advanced Options and Resetting
The Advanced tab offers additional customization options. The "Hide Drop-marker" option, when selected, removes the down arrow from the Bookmarks and History buttons.
Click "OK" to close the dialog box after completing your customizations.
To restore the Firefox menu and toolbar buttons to their default settings, click "Restore" on the Advanced tab.
