Create MP3 Files from Wikipedia Articles - Easy Guide

Converting Wikipedia Articles to Audio with Pediaphon

Previously, we explored methods for transforming Wikipedia articles, individually or in collections, into eBooks suitable for mobile reading. For those who frequently travel, an alternative is to listen to Wikipedia content. Pediaphon offers a solution for this purpose.

Creating MP3 Files

To generate an MP3 audio file from a Wikipedia article, navigate to http://www.pediaphon.org/~bischoff/radiopedia/index_en.html. Input your search term – representing the desired article – into the provided text field. For example, you might enter “podcast”.

Important Note: Precise article titles are required. Entering general search terms will result in an MP3 file containing links to potential matches, rather than the article itself. It is recommended to first locate the article on Wikipedia and then copy the exact title for input.

Customize the audio experience by selecting a preferred voice from the voice options dropdown. Adjust the speaking speed using the corresponding dropdown menu. Finally, choose your desired output format – MP3 download, Podcast, old iPhone, or Shoutcast – from the final dropdown list.

Initiate the conversion process by clicking the "start" button.

A status message will be displayed while your MP3 file is being created.

Downloading the Audio File

Upon completion, a new page will appear, presenting links to the generated files.

To save the MP3 file to your computer, right-click on the corresponding link. Select "Save Link As" from the context menu. A dialog box will then appear, allowing you to choose a save location and finalize the download.

Once downloaded, the MP3 file can be transferred to your mobile device. It can then be played using any application that supports MP3 audio playback.
