Convert DMG to ISO: A Guide for Windows Users

Converting DMG Files to ISO Files on Windows

The DMG image format is the predominant file container utilized for software distribution on Mac OS X. This guide details the process of converting a DMG file into an ISO file, enabling its mounting on a Windows PC.

Obtaining the Conversion Tool

Begin by visiting the appropriate website and downloading a copy of dmg2img. Select the 'win32 binary' link to acquire the necessary files.

Extracting the Downloaded Files

After the download is complete, navigate to your Downloads folder. Right-click on the downloaded file and choose "Extract All" from the context menu.

A prompt will appear, requesting the destination for the extracted files. Extracting to your Downloads folder is a suitable option for this purpose.

Accessing the Command Prompt

Now, while holding down the Shift key, right-click within your Downloads library. From the resulting context menu, select "Open command window here."

Executing the Conversion Command

Utilize the following command syntax to perform the conversion:

dmg2img <source file.dmg> <destination file.iso>

For instance, if you wish to convert a DMG file named "random.dmg" located on your desktop and save the resulting ISO file in your Documents folder, the command would be:

dmg2img "C:\Users\Taylor Gibb\Desktop\random.dmg" “C:\Users\Taylor Gibb\Documents\ConvertedRandom.iso”

It's important to note that enclosing file paths in quotation marks is only necessary when those paths contain spaces. If your file paths are space-free, quotations are not required.

Completion and Verification

Upon pressing Enter, the conversion process will commence.

Once finished, the ISO file will be created in the specified destination.

Finalizing the Process

The newly created ISO file can then be burned to a disc for use.
