Change SkyBell HD Doorbell Video Quality - Guide

Optimizing Video Quality on Your SkyBell HD Doorbell

The SkyBell HD is a video doorbell designed to provide a live video feed of visitors and enable two-way communication. However, a less-than-optimal internet connection can impact the video stream's quality. This guide details how to adjust the video settings for improved performance.

Wireless Signal Considerations

Even with a router positioned near your SkyBell, a strong signal isn't always guaranteed. Exterior walls are typically constructed from denser materials than interior walls. These materials can significantly weaken wireless signals.

It's common to experience a reduction in Wi-Fi speed when moving outside. This can affect the SkyBell's ability to stream video at its maximum resolution.

Adjusting Video Resolution

Unlike some other video doorbells, such as the Ring Doorbell, the SkyBell HD allows for manual adjustment of video quality. The SkyBell HD is capable of recording and streaming video up to 1080p.

If your Wi-Fi connection is unstable, you can reduce the resolution to as low as 480p. Several intermediate quality settings are also available.

Step-by-Step Guide to Changing Video Quality

To modify the video quality settings on your SkyBell HD, begin by launching the SkyBell application on your smartphone.

Tap the settings gear icon, located in the upper-right corner of the application screen.

From the settings menu, select "Image Quality".

You will be presented with four resolution options: 480p, 720p (Good), 720p (Better), and 1080p.

Choose your desired resolution and then tap "Save" in the top-right corner to apply the changes.

Understanding Resolution Trade-offs

Your SkyBell will now record and stream video at the selected quality level. Remember that lowering the resolution will result in a less detailed image.

At 480p, fine details may be lost. However, you should still be able to identify visitors. The lower the resolution, the less discernible details will be.
