Pokémon GO IV Calculator: Exact IVs with New Appraisal

Understanding Pokémon GO IVs and the New Appraisal System
For players of Pokémon GO, acquiring the strongest possible Pokémon is a primary goal. However, determining a Pokémon’s true potential extends beyond simply observing its CP and move set.
Each Pokémon possesses Individual Values (IVs) which fundamentally dictate its performance in battle. These values represent hidden statistical strengths.
What are Individual Values?
Individual Values are categorized into three key areas: attack, defense, and stamina (HP). Each of these categories is assigned a numerical value ranging from zero to fifteen.
Understanding a Pokémon’s strengths in these areas is crucial for effective gameplay. For instance, a Vaporeon excelling in attack is ideal for gym takeovers, while a Vileplume with high defense is better suited for gym defense.
The Appraisal System: A New Way to Assess Pokémon
Previously, determining precise IVs was challenging. While IV calculators existed, Pokémon GO’s new appraisal system offers players the ability to calculate their Pokémon's exact IVs, moving beyond estimations.
This system reveals whether a Pokémon is most effective at attacking, defending, or enduring, or if it lacks the necessary stats for competitive use.
Calculating Pokémon Perfection
IVs are collectively used to determine a Pokémon’s “perfection” score, expressed as a percentage from zero to one hundred. This percentage is calculated by summing the three IV values and dividing the result by 45.
As an example, a Blastoise with IVs of 15-13-11 (attack-defense-stamina) yields a perfection percentage of 86.7%. (15+13+11 = 39, and 39/45 = .866).
A Pokémon with perfect 15-15-15 IVs represents the absolute best possible outcome, achieving a 100% perfection score.
Utilizing the Appraisal System and IV Calculators
The new appraisal system involves a review by your team leader—Blanche (Mystic), Candela (Valor), or Spark (Instinct)—who will “rate” your Pokémon. However, the specific statements made by your leader provide valuable insights into your Pokémon’s IVs.
Combining these statements with an IV calculator allows you to pinpoint your Pokémon's exact values and overall perfection percentage.
Here's a breakdown of how each team leader’s statements correlate to your Pokémon’s potential:
- Further details on interpreting team leader statements will be provided in a separate guide.
Blanche: Team Mystic
Blanche, a member of Team Mystic, provides assessments of your Pokémon. Her initial evaluation focuses on the overall quality of your Pokémon.
Initial Assessment
- Overall, your [Pokémon Name] demonstrates remarkable potential! A truly impressive Pokémon!: 82.2% (37/45) – 100% (45/45)
- Your [Pokémon Name] has undoubtedly piqued my interest.: 66.7% (30/45) – 80% (36/45)
- Your [Pokémon Name] performs at a level considered above average.: 51.1% (23/45) – 64.4% (29/45)

Utilizing the IV Calculator
Considering all the previously discussed information, you are now prepared to utilize an IV calculator. I personally favor Poké Assistant’s IV calculator due to its simplicity and directness. Within Poké Assistant, you will input your Pokémon’s details: its name, CP, HP, the Dust cost for powering up, and whether it has undergone any powering up procedures. You can also select the checkbox corresponding to the quality your team leader highlights to refine the calculation results.
As an illustration, we will examine my most powerful Vaporeon, affectionately named “Abraham” due to his resemblance to Abe from Hellboy. I also possess a Flareon named Hellboy, though its performance is…suboptimal.
Allow me to digress momentarily. Let us proceed with the calculation.

Candela (a dedicated member of Team Valor!) provided the following assessment:
“Overall, your Abraham truly impresses me. He is capable of achieving anything! His Attack stat is his most prominent attribute. I am equally impressed by his Defense. I am astonished by his statistics. WOW!”

This indicates that Abraham’s perfection percentage falls within the 82.2% – 100% range, and both his Attack and Defense stats are at 15. Returning to Poke Assistant, I input all of his information into the calculator, then select the Att and Def checkboxes (as Candela highlighted both). And there it is! I discover he is level 19, with an Attack of 15, a Defense of 15, and a Stamina of 10, resulting in a total perfection score of 88.9%. I gladly accept that!

Let’s consider another example. This time, we’ll use Hellboy, and I’ll demonstrate just how underwhelming he is. Candela’s assessment reveals the following:
“Overall, your Hellboy is a formidable Pokémon. You should feel proud! His Attack is his strongest characteristic. I am blown away by his statistics. WOW!”

What does this signify? That his perfection range is between 66.7% and 80%, and his Attack stat is 15. Logical deduction suggests that his other two stats are likely less impressive—at least one of them will be considerably low. To ascertain the precise values, we will input his data into the IV calculator.

By entering all of his information and selecting the “Att” checkbox, I now know he is level 19, with an Attack of 15, a Defense of 13, and a Stamina of 2, resulting in a perfection percentage of 66.7%. Therefore, while he may not be exceptionally strong overall, he does possess a solid Attack and reasonable Defense. This indicates he can be utilized in battle, although he may faint more readily than other Pokémon. I would certainly avoid deploying him to defend a gym, as his low stamina would not allow him to endure for long.
A crucial point to remember is how to identify a 100% Pokémon, which is the ultimate goal for many players, whether they consciously recognize it or not. Here are the key indicators:
- Your team leader provides the 82% – 100% statement, and…
- They state that all three stats are its strongest points (Attack, Defense, HP), and…
- They deliver the “perfect IV” statement (as indicated above for each team leader)
When these three factors align, you can confidently conclude that your Pokémon is 100% perfect, as all three stats are equal (indicated by your team leader’s mention of all three), and the “perfect IV” statement automatically confirms that the mentioned stats are 15. 15 + 15 + 15 = 45/45 = 1.00. A perfect score!
Now, embark on your quest to discover your perfect Pokémon!
By memorizing your team leader’s phrases, you will quickly be able to assess a Pokémon's general perfection immediately after catching it. This will greatly simplify the decision-making process regarding evolution or powering up, as well as determining the optimal deployment of your Pokémon (in battle, gym defense, etc.). The appraisal system represents a significant advancement in assisting players in developing the most effective strategies for both taking down and defending gyms. Combined with an IV calculator, you can now uncover all relevant information about your Pokémon!
P.S.: Bonus points if you can identify the type of Pokémon I named "CorpseFlower," as featured in the lead image of this post.
