Android Ringtones: How to Avoid Loud & Embarrassing Sounds

Adjusting Ringtone Volume with Intelligent Ringer
Determining an appropriate ringtone volume can be challenging. A single volume setting is rarely ideal across all situations. What sounds perfect at home might be inaudible on a train, yet excessively loud in an office setting.
Intelligent Ringer offers a solution by dynamically adjusting the ringtone volume based on surrounding noise levels.
The Importance of Audible Ringing
It’s essential to be able to hear your phone when it rings. While vibration is useful when the device is carried, it doesn’t address audibility in noisy environments when the phone is placed on a surface.
Installation and Settings
The application can be downloaded from Google Play. Upon launching, access the Settings menu by pressing the menu button.
Settings are managed through a series of intuitive sliders. The ‘Pocket Factor’ slider functions only when ‘Pocket mode’ is activated. This utilizes the phone’s proximity sensor to detect when it’s in a pocket, increasing the volume according to your specified setting.
Configuring Volume Limits and Startup
Scroll down to define the maximum and minimum ring volumes. The Minimum setting controls the loudness in quiet environments, while Maximum governs the volume in noisy locations.
To ensure the app automatically runs upon device startup, enable the ‘Start on boot’ option.
Calibration for Accuracy
Improve the app’s accuracy by utilizing the calibration options at the screen’s bottom. When in a noisy environment – where a higher ring volume is desired – tap the ‘Noise’ button to sample audio levels.
Conversely, in a quiet or silent setting, tap the ‘Silence’ button to sample audio levels. Confirm each sample with ‘OK’ and finalize the process with ‘Done’.
Activating Intelligent Ringer
Until automatic startup is enabled, navigate back and tap ‘Start’ to initiate the application. A notification icon will confirm that Intelligent Ringer is active.
Battery Life Considerations
Concerns about battery drain from continuous noise monitoring are unfounded. Intelligent Ringer only assesses ambient noise levels upon receiving a call, introducing a minimal delay before ringing at an appropriate volume.
If audio level measurement appears slow, consider slightly reducing the ‘Accuracy’ slider setting.
