Always Show Startup Dialog in Opera - Guide

Customizing Opera's Startup Behavior

Opera offers users a variety of choices regarding the browser's initial display upon launch. Users can designate their Home page or Speed Dial as the starting point. Alternatively, the browser can resume from a previous session, restoring tabs and windows, or load a session managed through Opera’s integrated session manager.

A dialog box presenting these options can be configured to appear each time Opera is started. To enable this feature, type “opera:config” (without quotation marks) into the address bar and press Enter.

Accessing Startup Configuration

The Preferences Editor will then load on the current tab. Within the editor, enter “startup” (again, without quotes) into the Search field. As you type, relevant settings will be filtered and displayed.

Select the “Show Startup Dialog” check box to activate it, indicated by a check mark appearing within the box. Following this, click the Save button to apply the changes.

Confirmation and Saving Changes

A confirmation dialog will appear to acknowledge the modification. Click “OK” to dismiss this confirmation.

Applying the Configuration

To ensure the new setting takes effect, completely close Opera by selecting “Exit” from the Opera menu.

Using the Startup Dialog

Upon subsequent launches of Opera, the “Welcome to Opera” startup dialog will be presented. From this dialog, you can choose how Opera should begin. Selecting “Continue from last time” will restore all previously open tabs and windows.

The option “Continue saved sessions” allows you to select a previously saved session, utilizing Opera’s built-in session manager.

You also have control over extension behavior during startup. The “Start extensions” check box allows you to enable or disable installed extensions.

Disabling the Dialog

Should you no longer desire the dialog to appear with each launch, simply select the “Do not show this dialog again” check box. The “Show Startup Dialog” preference, as previously described, can be used to re-enable the dialog at any time.

Unexpected Shutdowns

It’s important to note that the Opera startup dialog will consistently appear following an unexpected browser closure, such as a forced quit or system crash.
