Adjust Ring Doorbell Motion Sensitivity - Simple Guide

Adjusting Motion Sensitivity on Your Ring Doorbell

The Ring Doorbell notifies you when someone presses the doorbell button. It also provides alerts based on detected motion. However, the motion detection isn't always flawless.

Understanding Motion Detection and False Positives

Ring Doorbell utilizes infrared technology to identify motion, differentiating between people and other moving objects. Despite this, instances of false positives can occur. For example, the thermal signature of a vehicle passing by might trigger an alert.

By modifying the sensitivity and detection range of your Ring Doorbell, you can minimize these unwanted notifications and refine the areas monitored for activity.

Accessing Motion Settings

Begin by launching the Ring app on your smartphone. Then, tap on your registered Ring Doorbell device from the main screen.

Next, select "Motion Settings" from the device options.

Configuring Zones and Ranges

Within the "Motion Settings" menu, choose "Zones and Ranges".

This screen allows you to define specific detection zones and adjust the distance at which motion is detected. Simply tap on a zone to enable or disable its monitoring.

Use the slider located on the left side of the screen to control the maximum distance for motion detection.

Saving Your Zone and Range Adjustments

Once you've configured your desired zones and range, tap "Save" in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

A prompt will appear, requesting you to press the physical button on your Ring Doorbell to confirm and save the changes. Follow the on-screen instructions and then select "Continue".

Adjusting Smart Alert Settings

After saving the zone and range settings, tap on "Smart Alert".

This setting determines the overall sensitivity of the Ring Doorbell's motion detection. Selecting "Light" will result in fewer alerts, ideal for situations where you anticipate some activity. Conversely, "Frequent" will generate more notifications.

Choose the sensitivity level that best suits your needs and then tap "Save".

Finalizing Adjustments and Troubleshooting

These steps complete the process of adjusting your Ring Doorbell's motion sensitivity. If you continue to experience false alarms, consider further reducing the sensitivity.

The optimal setting may vary depending on your environment. It may be necessary to lower the sensitivity to its minimum level to eliminate unwanted alerts, but individual results will differ.
