CEOP Enhanced Internet Explorer 8: Protecting Your Children Online

Enhancing Internet Explorer 8 with CEOP for Family Safety
Are you seeking to improve the safety and usability of Internet Explorer for yourself and your family? Consider exploring the CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) enhanced version of Internet Explorer 8. This article details its implementation and features.
Setting Up CEOP
For comprehensive access to all CEOP functionalities, we opted to install the complete CEOP package. The installation unfolds in two phases, beginning with CEOP-branded windows displaying the installation of various components.
It’s worth noting that individual components are available for download, allowing users to add only the desired CEOP features to their browser.
Following the initial CEOP windows, the installation process transitions to the standard Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 installation screens. During this stage, you may be informed of a required computer restart, although some windows suggest a log off/log on procedure. To ensure a smooth installation, we recommend a full system restart upon completion.

The End User License Agreement (EULA) section clearly indicates the compatible Windows versions for the CEOP Pack.

After navigating the standard Microsoft installation windows, you will return to the CEOP-branded interface.

CEOP in Operation
Upon restarting your computer and launching Internet Explorer, you’ll observe a change to your homepage. This alteration is beneficial, particularly when considering the online safety of children, and provides access to valuable CEOP online resources.

Initially, you might wonder about the location of familiar features. The two new search providers can be found within the drop-down menu of your “Search Bar,” allowing you to select a preferred default if desired.

Furthermore, new links have been integrated into your “Favorites Menu,” offering potentially helpful resources for both you and your family.

To view the “Click CEOP Button”, ensure your “Favorites Bar” is visible. You may also need to enable subscribing for “Web Slices” if you haven’t already.

Confirm the subscription process by clicking “Yes”.

Selecting the “CEOP Button” reveals a wealth of links designed to provide information and support for you and your children. The resources are thoughtfully organized into “topic categories” and “age brackets,” facilitating focused access to relevant information.

Seeking information on a specific issue? Clicking the “Cyberbullying Link,” for instance, directs you to a webpage offering details about cyberbullying and resources for obtaining assistance.

Need resources tailored to your child’s age? Selecting the “8-10?” link opens a dedicated page.

Information geared towards parents is accessible via the “Parent?” link. The combination of “topic categories & age brackets” makes the CEOP Button a valuable and “family friendly” addition to Internet Explorer.

If you or your child need to research a particular concern, both search providers offer helpful suggestions as you type your “search term.” We found these suggestions to be consistently relevant and useful.

Conclusion
While we’ve provided a glimpse into the capabilities of the CEOP Tools, the most effective way to appreciate their value is to experience them firsthand. The safety and well-being of your children are paramount.
