TechCrunch to Host Virtual Event in Detroit

TechCrunch is bringing its focus to Detroit, albeit in a virtual format. A focused online event is scheduled for April 15th, bringing together local venture capitalists, founders, and individuals interested in the region’s expanding business environment.

A key component of the event will be a pitch competition. Detroit-based startups will have the opportunity to present their businesses to Detroit-area VCs within a concise, three-minute timeframe.

Feature on StockX and Event Details

This meetup follows TechCrunch’s recent publication of a detailed feature on StockX, a prominent Detroit-based company. Those who contributed to the creation of that article will also be present at the event; the article can be accessed here.

Attendance is open to all, but the pitch opportunity is specifically targeted towards startups located in southeastern Michigan. TechCrunch has a proven track record of hosting pitch events, and is pleased to continue this practice in a virtual setting.

Expanding Regional Events

For those not located in Michigan, further opportunities are planned. TechCrunch intends to host similar events in other regions, with Pittsburgh announced as the next location.

Pitch-Off Qualifications

Specific criteria apply for startups wishing to participate in the pitch competition.

  • Startups must be in the early stage of development (Series A funding or earlier).
  • Priority will be given to companies based in the Detroit metropolitan area.
  • Preparation of a pitch deck is strongly encouraged.
  • Applications for the pitch-off can be submitted here.

The event is accessible online and free of charge, however, registration is required and spaces are limited. Early registration is advised to secure a spot. We look forward to your participation.
