Halide Next Version: New Film Filters & HDR

Halide Mark III: Roadmap and New Features
Lux, the developer behind the professional iPhone camera application Halide, unveiled its development roadmap on Monday. This roadmap outlines the features planned for the next major iteration of the app, designated Halide Mark III, with a projected release timeframe sometime in the coming year.
Introducing Color Grades and Enhanced HDR
According to Lux, Halide Mark III will introduce two significant new capabilities. These include Color Grades and a proprietary implementation of HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography.
The planned Color Grades functionality aims to emulate the aesthetic qualities of images captured with traditional film cameras. This builds upon a similar feature already available within Lux’s video recording application, Kino.
User Interface Redesign
A comprehensive redesign of the app’s user interface (UI) is also slated for Halide Mark III. This redesign will be implemented to seamlessly integrate the new features and enhance the overall user experience.
It’s worth noting that the current version, Halide Mark II, was initially launched in 2020.
Lux’s Continued Innovation in Computational Photography
Lux has consistently focused on developing its own unique algorithms for various Halide features. Examples include super-resolution technology for improved macro photography and a no-process mode designed to minimize post-processing effects on images.
Early Access Through Discord
To foster community involvement, Lux has established a dedicated Discord server. This server will serve as a platform for sharing updates and distributing TestFlight links. These links will provide select users with early access to test Halide Mark III prior to its official public release.
This early access program allows for valuable feedback and refinement before the final version is made available.
