gwoop Secures $1.8M to Revolutionize Esports Training

Gwoop Secures Seed Funding for Esports Training Platform
Previously this year, coverage was provided regarding Gwoop, a Minnesota-based team developing a suite of browser-based games. These games are designed to enhance overall video game skills.
The games assess various metrics, including reaction time, mouse movement accuracy, and target acquisition speed. Subsequently, this data is presented in a dashboard, allowing users to monitor their progress over time.
Expansion into High School Esports
During a prior conversation, Gwoop co-founder Gavin Lee expressed ambitions of establishing the platform as a leading analytics and training resource for the growing number of high school esports teams.
An increasing number of educational institutions are recognizing the legitimacy of esports. Consequently, coaches require tools to evaluate player strengths, track development, and implement effective warm-up routines.
Significant Growth and Funding
Gwoop is demonstrably achieving progress in this area. Lee reports that the platform is currently being utilized by “approximately 1,000 school programs spanning 40 states.”
To further accelerate this expansion, Gwoop has successfully raised a $1.85 million seed round.
Freemium Model and Revenue Generation
The core Gwoop platform will remain free for individual players, a principle Lee considers essential.
However, the company is implementing strategies to generate revenue through its new “Gwoop Teams” offering.
Introducing Gwoop Teams
Developed for collaborative training environments, Gwoop Teams enables coaches to assign training schedules, monitor player practice adherence, and track individual improvement.
A basic version of Teams is available at no cost, accommodating rosters of up to 30 players and allowing for two distinct “parties” – for example, one for Rocket League and another for League of Legends players.
For larger programs, “Team Plus” expands the roster capacity to 150 players and increases the number of manageable parties. This premium tier is priced at approximately $350 annually.
Future Developments: AI-Powered Game Recommendations
Gwoop is also investigating the potential of machine learning to suggest games where players are likely to excel. This assessment will be based on their existing skills and rankings in other competitive titles.
Investment Details
This funding round was led by Montreal’s Angels of Many and Klein Investments, with participation from several angel investors.
The company intends to leverage these funds to continue developing its platform and expanding its reach within the high school esports landscape.
