Terri Burns Joins Startup Battlefield as Judge | GV

TechCrunch Disrupt: Introducing Startup Battlefield Judge Terri Burns
A highlight of TechCrunch Disrupt is undoubtedly the Startup Battlefield competition. Central to this event is the panel of expert judges who evaluate the participating founders.
Following the demonstrations and pitches, these judges are tasked with rapidly assessing each startup through insightful questioning.
Ultimately, their decision determines the winner, who receives a $100,000 prize and the coveted Disrupt Cup.
Terri Burns Joins the Judging Panel
This year’s second virtual Startup Battlefield will feature Terri Burns, a partner at GV, as a key judge.
Burns initially joined the firm – previously known as Google Ventures – in 2017 as a principal, and her subsequent promotion to partner last year marked a significant milestone.
She became the first Black female partner at GV, as well as the firm’s youngest partner.
Burns’ Background and Investment Focus
Prior to her role at GV, Burns honed her skills as a developer evangelist and front-end engineer at Venmo.
She also served as an associate product manager at Twitter, gaining valuable experience in product development.
At GV, Burns has made investments in innovative companies like HAGS, a social application for high school students, and Locker Room, a social audio platform.
Focus on Gen Z Founders
In a previous interview, Burns articulated her interest in supporting founders from Generation Z.
She specifically cited HAGS as a prime example of a product successfully “built by and for Gen Z.”
Event Details and Application Information
Disrupt 2021 is scheduled to take place from September 21-23 and will be a fully virtual experience.
Attendees can secure a pass to join the TechCrunch community for under $100 by registering before next month.
Furthermore, applications are currently being accepted for startups wishing to compete in the Startup Battlefield until May 13.
