Gruve.ai: High-Margin AI Consulting | Disrupting the Industry

The Emerging Role of AI in Enterprise Solutions
Organizations across various sectors are increasingly acknowledging the transformative potential of AI. However, a significant challenge exists: a majority of initial AI pilot projects fail to progress beyond the testing stages.
Gruve.ai: Bridging the Gap to Implementation
Gruve.ai, a new venture established by the founding team of Rahi Systems, is focused on assisting enterprises in successfully transitioning AI solutions from experimental phases to practical, real-world applications. The company leverages AI itself to deliver its core services.
Rahi Systems, an IT solutions provider, was acquired by Wesco in 2022 for a sum of $225 million.
Challenging the Traditional IT Consultancy Model
Historically, IT services firms, including industry leaders such as Accenture, have served as the primary consultants for companies seeking to implement new technologies when internal expertise is lacking. However, this reliance on human resources often results in substantial costs.
“The technology services sector has remained largely unchanged for the past 25 to 30 years,” stated Tarun Raisoni, CEO of Gruve, in an interview with TechCrunch. “AI fundamentally alters this established pattern.”
Gruve’s Two-Pronged Approach
Gruve aims to redefine the conventional IT consultancy approach through two key strategies. First, it intends to minimize the need for extensive consultant teams by utilizing AI agents to automate repetitive tasks. Second, the company plans to implement a usage-based pricing model, moving away from traditional hourly rates.
The Appeal to Venture Capitalists
Previously, venture capitalists showed limited interest in investing in IT services due to the scalability challenges associated with labor-intensive business models. However, by substituting human consultants with AI agents, Gruve anticipates achieving software-like gross margins of 70% to 80%. This represents a considerable improvement over the margins typically seen in traditional tech consultancies, according to Navin Chaddha, managing partner at Mayfield.
Securing Funding for Growth
Gruve’s innovative business model and the team’s proven track record with Rahi Systems have facilitated the successful completion of a $20 million Series A funding round. Mayfield led the investment, with additional participation from Cisco Investments and other investors. This new funding increases Gruve’s total funding to $37.5 million.
A Phased Implementation Process
Raisoni explained that the initial step involves collaborating with clients to define their AI requirements and preparing their data to support AI applications. Following this, the team recommends and implements appropriate AI solutions.
“A thorough understanding of the client’s business is essential before implementation, as business processes, workflows, and client servicing methods vary,” he emphasized.
AI-Powered Task Automation
Once deployment is ready, AI agents will manage tasks such as identifying security breaches and facilitating the migration from on-premises systems to cloud-based CRM solutions.
Strategic Partnerships
Similar to established IT consultancies, Gruve collaborates with a network of trusted technology vendors to deliver solutions to its clients. Current partners include major corporations like Cisco, IBM’s Red Hat, and Google, alongside approximately a dozen AI-focused startups, such as Glean and Supervity.
A Novel “Pay-for-Value” Billing System
Unlike most tech consultancies, Gruve does not charge clients upon initial solution implementation. “Our services are provided on demand, mirroring the delivery models of electricity or cloud computing,” Chaddha explained. For instance, if Gruve implements AI for security purposes, billing occurs only when a security breach is detected and analyzed by the AI system.
