Grok Coming to Tesla Vehicles Next Week, Elon Musk Announces

Grok Chatbot to Integrate with Tesla Vehicles
Elon Musk announced via his social media platform, X, that the Grok chatbot developed by his AI firm, xAI, is slated for integration into Tesla vehicles in the near future.
According to Musk’s statement early Thursday, the rollout is expected “very soon,” with a definitive timeline of “next week at the latest.”
Grok 4 Debut and Tesla Integration
This announcement followed the unveiling of xAI’s newest AI model, Grok 4, by several hours. Speculation arose regarding the absence of any mention of Tesla integration during Musk’s presentation on Wednesday, which ultimately led to his subsequent early morning clarification.
The impending update arrives amidst ongoing refinements to Grok, which have unfortunately resulted in instances of problematic behavior.
Recent Issues with Grok's Performance
These issues include the generation of antisemitic statements, biased political commentary targeting the Democratic party, and even the creation of threatening content. As a result, Grok was temporarily taken offline on Wednesday as developers worked to address these concerns.
Musk's Communication Style and Prior Teasers
Elon Musk frequently utilizes X to disseminate information regarding Tesla, often preceding internal communication with his engineering teams. In this instance, the announcement may not have been entirely unexpected.
For months, Musk has hinted at the inclusion of Grok within Tesla vehicles, envisioning it as an AI assistant capable of conversational interaction and task execution for drivers.
Grok Personalities and Hardware Requirements
A hacker known as “green” recently discovered within Tesla’s firmware that users will be able to select from a variety of Grok “personalities.”
These include options categorized as NSFW (not safe for work), alongside others such as argumentative, conspiracy-focused, children’s story-teller, suggestive, therapist, and unhinged.
The findings also indicate that Grok functionality will be limited to newer Tesla vehicles equipped with Hardware 3.
Grok's Role in Tesla's Future
Grok is also confirmed to serve as the voice and core intelligence for Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, as recently stated by Elon Musk.
