Grammarly Acquires Superhuman: AI Email Client Integration

Grammarly Acquires Email Client Superhuman to Enhance AI Capabilities
Grammarly revealed on Tuesday its acquisition of Superhuman, an email client, as part of a broader strategy to expand its AI functionalities within its productivity tools. The financial specifics of this transaction have not been publicly disclosed by either organization.
Superhuman's Background and Funding
Founded by Rahul Vohra, Vivek Sodera, and Conrad Irwin, Superhuman successfully secured over $114 million in funding. Investors included prominent firms such as a16z, IVP, and Tiger Global. Venture data from Traxcn indicates the company’s most recent valuation stood at $825 million.
Grammarly's Vision for Integration
Shishir Mehrotra, CEO of Grammarly, articulated the company’s rationale, stating, “Through the integration of Superhuman, we aim to extend this future to a significantly larger audience of professionals.”
He further explained that this acquisition will provide existing Grammarly users with a unique platform for agent collaboration, currently unavailable elsewhere.
Synergies and Future Development
Email, according to Mehrotra, is not merely an application but a central hub for professional activity. It represents an ideal environment for the simultaneous orchestration of multiple AI agents.
Superhuman Team Joins Grammarly
As a result of this agreement, Rahul Vohra, the CEO of Superhuman, along with other members of the Superhuman team, will be transitioning to Grammarly.
Vohra's Perspective on the Acquisition
Rahul Vohra commented, “By combining forces with Grammarly, we will be able to further invest in the core Superhuman experience.”
He envisions a new collaborative workflow where AI agents seamlessly interact across the communication tools used daily by individuals globally.
Recent AI Advancements at Superhuman
In recent months, Superhuman has introduced AI-driven features focused on scheduling, automated replies, and intelligent email categorization. Grammarly intends to leverage Superhuman’s technology to develop AI agents specifically for email management.
Grammarly's Previous Acquisition and Investment
Last year, Grammarly acquired Coda, a collaborative productivity software company. Concurrently, Coda’s co-founder, Shishir Mehrotra, was appointed as Grammarly’s CEO.
Non-Dilutive Investment from General Catalyst
In May, Grammarly secured a $1 billion non-dilutive investment from General Catalyst. This arrangement allows Grammarly to repay the investment with a capped percentage of revenue generated from the funds, avoiding equity dilution.
This innovative funding model demonstrates Grammarly’s strong financial position and confidence in its future growth.
