GPT-5: Is the New Version More User-Friendly?

OpenAI Updates GPT-5 for Enhanced User Experience
Late Friday, OpenAI revealed an update designed to make its newest model more engaging and personable.
The recent release of GPT-5, while highly anticipated, experienced a somewhat challenging rollout, as acknowledged by CEO Sam Altman.
Some users expressed a preference for the preceding version, GPT-4o, prompting OpenAI to respond with adjustments.
Addressing User Feedback
The company is now implementing changes intended to address these concerns, describing them as “subtle” refinements.
These modifications aim to render GPT-5 “more approachable” in its interactions.
OpenAI clarified that the update will introduce authentic acknowledgements, such as phrases like “Good question” or “Great start,” avoiding insincere flattery.
Internal evaluations indicate that these changes will not lead to an increase in overly agreeable responses compared to the initial GPT-5 personality.
Focus Beyond the Launch
During a recent dinner with members of the press, OpenAI leadership attempted to shift the conversation towards future initiatives.
However, the less-than-smooth launch of GPT-5 remained a central topic, as reported by Max Zeff.
According to VP Nick Turley, the initial version of GPT-5 was “very to the point,” but the current update will introduce a more welcoming tone.
The goal is to create a more positive and natural interaction for users.
