Google Announces AI-Powered Updates for Workspace

During Google I/O 2025, the company showcased a range of forthcoming AI features designed to enhance functionality within Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Vids. Significant improvements are slated for Gmail, including personalized smart replies and a novel inbox management tool. Furthermore, Google Vids will receive new capabilities for content creation and editing.

Gmail Enhancements

Gmail is set to introduce personalized smart replies, crafted to align with your individual communication style and the context of each email. This feature leverages your previous correspondence and files stored in Google Drive to suggest relevant responses, minimizing the need for manual searching. The system will dynamically adapt to your preferred tone, whether formal or casual.

A new inbox cleanup function, powered by Gemini, will enable users to efficiently delete or archive unwanted emails. For instance, specific instructions like “Delete all unread emails from The Groomed Paw from last year” can be directly executed.

Streamlining appointment scheduling is another key addition. A new feature will facilitate the quick arrangement of meetings with external contacts. Gemini will intelligently detect scheduling intentions and present the relevant tool. Google anticipates this will significantly reduce the complexities of coordinating calendars.

Improvements to Google Docs

Within Google Docs, users can now directly integrate decks, datasets, and reports. When seeking writing assistance, Gemini will exclusively draw information from these designated sources. This ensures that suggestions remain focused on verified and trustworthy content.

This functionality is particularly beneficial for tasks such as composing research summaries or developing comprehensive business plans, guaranteeing the inclusion of accurate and pertinent details. The feature is available for general use immediately.

New Features in Google Vids

Google Vids is gaining the ability to transform existing Google Slides presentations into video format. This allows for the easy conversion of sales presentations or quarterly reviews into engaging video content. Gemini will assist with script generation, voiceover creation, and the addition of dynamic animations.

For organizations lacking video production resources or a dedicated presenter, Vids will offer AI avatars capable of delivering messages. A script can be written, and then presented by a chosen avatar in a professionally produced video. Potential applications include onboarding materials, company announcements, and product demonstrations.

These AI avatars will be accessible through Google Labs starting next month.

Enhanced Video Editing Tools

A new “transcript trim” tool will automatically eliminate filler words like “um” and “ah” from video transcripts. Additionally, a “balance sound” feature will allow users to uniformly adjust audio levels throughout their videos.

The “balance sound” feature will be broadly available next month, while the “transcript trim” tool will be released in Google Labs within a few months.

Imagen 4 Integration

Users will also gain access to Imagen 4, Google’s latest image-generating model, within Workspace. This integration will enable the creation of more detailed and sophisticated visuals for use in Slides, Vids, Docs, and other applications.

These new features across Gmail, Docs, and Vids are expected to become generally available over the coming months.
