Google Black Founders Fund: $2M Distributed to 30 European Startups

Google Invests $2 Million in European Black Founders
Google has announced the recipients of its $2 million Black Founders Fund in Europe, selecting 30 startups to receive financial support and resources. This initiative provides selected companies with funding, cloud services, and networking opportunities within Google.
The fund, unveiled last autumn, forms part of a broader company commitment to fostering a more equitable future. Over 800 companies initially applied, with Google conducting interviews with 100 before finalizing the list of 30 chosen ventures.
Funding and Resources
Each selected company is eligible for “up to” $100,000 in non-dilutive funding. Additionally, they can receive up to $120,000 in advertising credits and $100,000 in cloud computing credits. Further details regarding the fund’s allocation are pending.
Beyond financial assistance, these startups will gain access to Google’s entrepreneurial network, technical support, and other valuable assets.
Diversity and Representation
All participating startups are founded by Black entrepreneurs, with 40% led by women of color. Nancy de Fays, co-founder of LINE, is one such founder. LINE develops innovative battery-hub accessories for MacBook “Pro” laptops, enhancing both port availability and battery life.
De Fays recently published a blog post advocating for greater corporate action in promoting social change and urging startups to prioritize diversity and equity.
This perspective offers a contrast to the prevailing notion that companies should solely focus on mission-driven objectives and impartiality.
