NotebookLM Enhancements Unveiled at Google I/O 2025

During Google I/O 2025, Google announced upcoming advancements for NotebookLM, its AI-powered tool designed for note-taking and research. A key introduction is the launch of Video Overviews.

Transforming Content into Visual Summaries

Google explains that users will soon be able to convert complex multimedia content – including raw notes, PDF documents, and images – into easily understandable visual presentations.

Since its initial release, NotebookLM has focused on facilitating comprehension and interaction with intricate documents. This new functionality represents a shift towards a more visually-oriented method for users to grasp diverse subjects and concepts.

Expanding Audio Overview Capabilities

NotebookLM previously introduced Audio Overviews, enabling users to generate podcast-style summaries with AI-driven virtual hosts based on uploaded documents like course materials or legal documents.

Further enhancing Audio Overviews, Google is now providing users with control over the desired length of their audio summaries. Options include default, extended, or condensed versions.

Mobile Accessibility with New Apps

These new features were revealed following the official release of NotebookLM applications for both Android and iOS platforms. Previously, access to NotebookLM was limited to desktop users.

The mobile apps offer features such as background playback and offline access for Audio Overviews, alongside dark mode support.

Seamless Integration and Source Management

Users can now create new notebooks and access existing ones through the mobile apps. A share icon integration allows for easy addition of websites, PDFs, or YouTube videos as new sources to notebooks.

Furthermore, users can readily view previously uploaded sources within each notebook, streamlining their research process.
