Gemini Chatbot: Google Upgrades Image Creation Tools

Gemini Chatbot Receives Enhanced Image Editing Capabilities
Google has announced that its Gemini chatbot application now incorporates the ability to alter both images created by artificial intelligence and those uploaded by users from their devices. This update was detailed in a company blog post released on Wednesday.
The rollout of integrated image editing within Gemini is beginning incrementally today. Expansion to a wider global audience, encompassing the majority of countries, and support for over 45 languages is planned for the coming weeks.
Building on Previous AI Image Editing Tools
This launch builds upon an AI image-editing model that Google initially tested within its AI Studio platform back in March. That earlier version gained notoriety for its capacity to remove watermarks from images. Like the recently improved image-editing features in ChatGPT, Gemini’s new native editor has the potential to produce superior results compared to independent AI image generators.
Gemini now utilizes a “multi-step” editing process. This is designed to provide more detailed and contextually relevant responses to prompts that combine both text and images.
Users can now modify image backgrounds, substitute objects, introduce new elements, and perform a variety of other edits directly within the Gemini interface.
Examples of New Functionality
Google provides an example: a user can upload a personal photograph and request Gemini to visualize how they might appear with different hair colors.
Alternatively, users could ask Gemini to generate an initial draft of a children’s story about dragons, complete with accompanying illustrations.
Addressing Deepfake Concerns
The potential for misuse, particularly in the creation of deepfakes, has been acknowledged. To mitigate these risks, Google states that images generated or edited using Gemini’s native tools will include an imperceptible watermark.
Furthermore, the company is currently exploring the implementation of visible watermarks on all images produced by Gemini.
