Gemini AI App Update: What to Expect from Google's Makeover

Google Gemini App: Potential Visual Revamp

Following the success of OpenAI’s Sora video editing application, currently leading the U.S. App Store rankings, Google is reportedly exploring a significant redesign for its Gemini AI app.

Shifting Focus to Visual Engagement

The company appears to be testing a new user interface. This potential update would move away from the current chatbot-centric design.

Instead, it would introduce a scrollable feed featuring suggested prompts paired with visually striking photographs.

Discovery Through App Code

Android Authority recently discovered these changes within a recent version of the Gemini Android app.

However, the new interface isn’t yet available to the general public. A reverse engineer activated the new home screen by examining the app’s underlying code.

New Interface Elements

Shortcut buttons for functions like “Create Image” and “Deep Research” have been repositioned higher on the screen.

These are followed by the aforementioned scrollable feed of suggestions.

Google’s Response

When contacted for a statement, a Google spokesperson indicated that no official announcement is forthcoming “just yet.”

Prompt Examples and Use Cases

The showcased prompts offer creative ideas for photo manipulation, such as “Teleport me to deep space” or “Give me a vintage or grunge look.”

Other suggestions, presented with colorful backgrounds, highlight different ways to interact with Gemini or explore its capabilities.

Inspiring User Interaction

For example, one prompt suggests “Brainstorm out loud with Live,” while another proposes “Send me a daily news roundup.”

The intention is to provide users with more concrete examples of how to leverage Gemini’s AI features.

This approach aims to make the app more visually appealing and engaging.

Competitive Landscape

If implemented, this redesign could strengthen Google’s position against competitors like OpenAI.

ChatGPT’s app currently maintains a minimalist interface, launching to a largely blank screen.

Capitalizing on AI Image Model Success

The update could also build upon the momentum generated by Google’s Nano Banana AI image model.

This model contributed to Gemini’s rise in the App Store Top Charts in September, reaching the No. 1 position on September 12th before being surpassed by Sora.
