Google Launches AI-Powered Business Calling and Enhances Search with Gemini 2.5 Pro

Google has announced the widespread release of an agentic, AI-driven feature for business calls to all users located within the United States. This rollout was revealed by the company on Wednesday.

Simultaneously, Google is improving its AI Mode within Google Search. This enhancement is achieved through the integration of the Gemini 2.5 Pro model and the introduction of advanced deep research functionalities.

AI-Powered Business Calls

The newly implemented business-calling feature leverages artificial intelligence to contact local businesses on a user’s behalf. Its primary function is to gather details regarding service availability and associated costs.

This feature aims to provide convenient access to information, eliminating the need for direct phone conversations.

Initial testing of this capability began in January, limited to users participating in Google’s Search Labs experiments.

Users will be prompted to answer a few clarifying questions. These questions help determine appointment availability and service details from various local businesses.

For instance, you may be asked about the type of pet, the required services, and the desired appointment timeframe.

According to a Google spokesperson, each call initiated to a business clearly identifies itself as an automated system calling on behalf of a user.

Addressing Past Concerns

It is important to note that Google previously encountered criticism regarding a similar business-calling feature. This earlier version simulated human speech, raising concerns about potential deception.

In response to this feedback, Google committed to ensuring its AI identifies itself as a robotic system during these automated calls.

The current business-calling feature is now being deployed to all Google Search users in the United States. Increased usage limits are available for subscribers to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra.

Gemini 2.5 Pro Enhances AI Mode

Google is also significantly upgrading AI Mode, the Google Search feature that allows users to pose complex, multi-faceted questions to an AI interface. This upgrade incorporates the Gemini 2.5 Pro model for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.

The tech giant asserts that this model demonstrates exceptional capabilities in advanced reasoning, mathematical calculations, and coding tasks.

Subscribers can select the 2.5 Pro model from a drop-down menu within AI Mode.

The new “Deep Search” feature within AI Mode is designed to save subscribers valuable time. It achieves this by conducting numerous searches and synthesizing information from diverse sources.

The result is a comprehensive, fully-cited report generated in a matter of minutes.

Google highlights that Deep Search is particularly useful for in-depth research related to career paths, personal interests, or academic studies.

It can also assist with significant life decisions, such as purchasing a home or conducting financial analysis.

Expanding AI Capabilities

Since its initial launch earlier this year, Google has been continuously expanding the capabilities of AI Mode. This ongoing development is part of a broader effort to compete with popular services like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search.

Recent additions include the ability to engage in voice conversations with AI Mode, introduced last month.

In May, Google launched a shopping experience within AI Mode, providing users with product visuals and AI-powered recommendations based on product data.
